Spud of the Eirik Exploration Well
The drilling of the Eirik exploration well in production license (PL) 817 has commenced.
The rig “Deepsea Yantai” is drilling the well on behalf of the operator OMV (Norge) AS. The Odfjell rig is a GM4D designed for operations in harsh environments.
The Eirik exploration well (15/2-2 S) is in the Norwegian North Sea close to the Gudrun field approximately 200 kilometers west of Stavanger. The water depth in the area is 111 meters. The duration of the Eirik drilling campaign is up to 100 days with a successful discovery included sidetrack.
“Eirik is a gas and condensate prospect close to existing infrastructure. This exploration campaign fits our strategy to increase the gas share in our production portfolio”, says General Manager Knut Mauseth in OMV (Norge) AS.
OMV (Norge) AS is the operator of PL 817 with 50% working interest. The license partners are Neptune Energy and Source Energy with 30% and 20% working interest respectively.
The production license was awarded by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in APA 2015.
